Sloppy joes has been around for many years now.You will not be surprised to know that sloppy joes is an American creation.Burger’s are considered to be America’s favorite food.So story of sloppy joes crawls back to 1950’s when there was a new variation which was being developed of “loose meat” sandwiches.These sandwiches were very popular among all.They did not contain tomato sauce.

A chef named “Joe” added tomato sauce to this new variation of loose meat sandwiches.Hence, the name Sloppy joe. In different places in U.S. sloppy joe is called by different names like to name a few¬†barbecues,dynamites,slushburgers,wimpies and yum yums.

I would definitely love to call it yum yums as it describes it perfectly.Usually, sloppy joes is made of beef meat but I would prefer lamb meat instead.You can use any meat you like!

Ingredients to make sloppy joes

oil-1 tablespoon
Lamb mince-1 1/4 pounds
Brown sugar-1/4th cup
Onion-1 medium,chopped
Red bell pepper-1 small, chopped
Red wine vinegar-1 tablespoon

Worcestershire sauce-1 tablespoon
Tomato sauce-2 cups
Tomato paste-2 tablespoon
4 crusty rolls, split, toasted, and lightly buttered


Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Add oil and meat to the pan.

Spread the meat around the pan and begin to break it up.

Combine brown sugar and steak seasoning.

Add sugar and spice mixture to the skillet and combine.

When the meat has browned, add onion and red peppers to the skillet.

Reduce heat to medium and cook onions, peppers, red wine vinegar and Worcestershire sauce with meat for 5 minutes.

Add tomato sauce and paste to pan. Stir to combine.

Reduce heat to simmer and cook Sloppy Joe mixture 5 minutes longer.

Using a large spoon or ice cream scoop, pile sloppy meat onto toasted, buttered bun bottoms and cover with bun tops. Serve with your favorite sides or sliced tomatoes seasoned with salt and pepper, dill pickles and Deviled Potato Salad.
